The primary focus of the Summer Programming Internship is the design, staffing, and publicity of the gallery’s free public programs for summer, including monthly First Friday events and programs during existing community events such as the Central Pennsylvania Festival for the Arts. Duties will include research to gain a general familiarity with the gallery’s mission and programs, and bench-marking with similar institutions; developing content for free, public art-making programs and workshops; working within a set budget to purchase materials and supplies; and assisting the gallery’s Program Manager with communication and marketing efforts. The Programming Intern will also undertake planning and coordinating of programs for the next academic year.

The Programming Internship runs from May 13 – August 9, 2019. Interns are required to work ten hours per week under the supervision of the Program Manager during business hours (8 AM – 4 PM). The exact schedule will be determined in collaboration with gallery staff upon hiring. Interns are also expected to be present at all First Friday events, receptions, and gallery programs.

The ideal candidate has experience in and enthusiasm for working in community settings with diverse audiences; has great attention to detail; is a strong interpersonal communicator; and has experience with a diverse range of art-making practices. This is an ideal position for a graduate student or advanced undergraduate student of Art Education, Visual Art, or other field related to art, design, and/or education.

Interns will be paid an hourly rate commensurate with experience. Students may elect to earn course credit instead of a stipend. For-credit internships are available for a minimum of 4 credits (10 hours/week). Applications will be accepted until April 15, 2019. To apply, please include a cover letter explaining your interest in and goals for the position, a resume, and the name and contact information for two references who can speak to your qualifications for the position. Applications can be submitted via Penn State jobs.
